Declarative memories possess the property that enables us to retrieve, recollect and relive life time moments. Research in our laboratory has focused on asking how memories of related memories (realted in content/character) are organised and if such storage mechanisms modulate new learning. In doing so our results indicate that these memories play a critical role in determining the animals ability to perform novel task. In order to perform these studies we had to develop both behavioral and optical methodologies to probe these process at the scale of synapses. I will be discuss these methods that are developed in our lab.
